You just arrived in the capital of Romania and you’re trying to figure out what to do. What should I see, where should I eat or drink my coffee. 10 places for food, dessert and coffee, +1 pub to spend your night, are waiting for you from us to enjoy.
1. Grand Café Van Gogh: One of the most well-known coffee places of Bucharest. It’s quite touristic as you’ll find plenty of replicas of the paintings of the famous painter hanging on the wall. We drank the best affogato of the city, that’s why we heartily suggest it.
2. French Revolution Piata Victoriei: Here you’ll find the most fresh and the most delicious éclair. If you are a dessert lover, we’re pretty sure that it will not be enough for you to try only one of them. If you ‘re not, you will sure become one of éclairs’. The taste is astonishing.
3. Caru cu Bere: The most authentic taste experience of the Romanian cuisine that you can have in Bucharest. While you are tasting the local dishes and drinks, you’ll have the opportunity to watch many dancers dressed in traditional outfit dancing following the sound of Romanian music. You should not miss, neither the food experience or the dancing spectacle, that’s why you should book your spot at the interior of the place in advance. There is a lot of people visiting the place every day.
4. Luca: A chain store of bakeries where we tasted the local stuffed piroshki and gained some strength to continue our strolling around. Very tasty, both sweet and salty, and affordable, around 1 euro per piece.
5. Dristor Kebap: You will try delicious “gyro”, despite the fact that the personnel is extremely rude and the prices quite expensive in comparison to the financial status of the country. We suggest it only for its quality, but - if you ask us – they were so rude that we wouldn’t visit it again.
6. Simbio: An ideal choice for breakfast or brunch a little further out of the city center. Both coffee and food left us with the best of impressions and very satisfied.
7. La Vita e Velo: A beautiful coffee place, both internally and externally. As you may have understood by its name, you’ll find everything that a biker would need at the small store inside the coffee place. It closes at 3pm, so if you want to enjoy your coffee, be sure to be there on time.
8. Hanul lui Manuc: At this old hotel of 1808 with the huge interior yard you can taste, same as in Caru cu Bere, the authentic Romanian cuisine. You can visit the place for breakfast as well.
9. Linea / Closer to the Moon : Enjoy the city from above. A rooftop place that is open all year round under a special concept, which gives you the opportunity to eat quality food while enjoying the panoramic view of Bucharest.
10. Toan’s Restaurant: If you look for something to get yourself a little bit out of the Romanian cuisine, then we have the solution for you. Vietnamese in Bucharest, which was very good indeed. We went there before our trip to Vietnam, so if you would like to learn more about the authentic Vietnamese cuisine you can read our article.
11. Beer o clock: Strada Gabroveni street is a road full of pubs in which you can enjoy Romanian – or not – beers. This place in particular provides a huge variety, so you will definitely find something to match your taste!
Bucharest is a European capital with many choices, ideal for a pleasant 3-day trip. Both the Romanian cuisine which is pretty interesting especially during winter time, and the city of Bucharest itself they invite you to discover them. (Bucharest: 3 days in the little Paris of the Balkans).
